We Can’t Expect Our Siblings to Validate Our Reality.
We can't expect our siblings to validate our reality. Sometimes our siblings have denied what was going on to protect themselves. They have denied it, even to themselves. You know what happened to you. You can validate your own experience AND allow them their version of their reality. Two versions of truth will often exist between siblings. When we are trying to make sense of our childhood, it can be incredibly helpful to have a sibling who can validate our reality. This may happen for you, and it may not. Sometimes our siblings will have to deny what happened to protect themselves from the horror, the abuse or the unfairness. They put on blinkers, pretend it never happened, and that is their way forward. We all have ways to cope. If you have a sibling who has done this, know that this does NOT invalidate your experience. Your experience IS valid.
