Helpful Self-Talk When Getting Pushback Around Boundaries

Boundaries are a form of self-care and self-love. Once you have set a boundary, the struggle can be maintaining it. Maintaining a boundary takes strength and self-trust. I find if I am not sure about the boundary I have set, then I get more push back. When I have taken time to consider the boundary and I feel clear that it is the best one for me and one that aligns with my values, I get less pushback.

This is where self-talk comes in. When we are trying to set a boundary in a family, there may be a group of people who are unhappy with the new boundary. A group against one. So, as that one, you need some inner support. You can think of the inner voice as your cheer squad, supporting you in whatever way you need.

Ideally, in addition to the inner voice, you have support in the outer world. That might be a good friend, a therapist or another family member.

What other affirmations have you used to support yourself when getting pushback around a boundary? I’d love to hear in the comments.
